The school habitat recently transformed into a vibrant, hands-on learning lab where Year 1 students explored sustainability, language development and literature. By embedding environmental awareness into daily lessons, students truly experience the value of our natural resources through direct interaction. The children witnessed the butterfly life cycle firsthand. The classroom buzzed with excitement when the butterflies hatched, revealing a stunning range of colours.
The outdoor exploration continued as children gathered dry sticks from our diverse ecosystem. Inspired by Julia Donaldson’s popular book Stick Man, the students used these natural materials to assemble their own "stick families". Creativity flourished as they built characters, including a custom stick dog for Mr. Stickman. This activity blended literacy with fine motor skills and resourcefulness.
By touching, seeing, and creating with elements from their environment, students build a deep connection to the earth. Our rich school habitat continues to prove that the best lessons happen outside the textbook.
