Early Years

Introduction

At Braeside Thika Early Years, we cater for children from age 2 to 4 (Play Group to FS2); it is a distinct stage and important both in its own right and in preparing children for later schooling.

The Early Years Foundation Stage aims to encourage confident, independent leaners. To facilitate this our learning environments are set up in such a way that all learners are able to select resources and activities that of interest both in and outdoors.

Children develop the social, emotional, physical and creative aspects of their characters through this most natural activity. Children also have additional activities such as music, P.E., swimming, a library time and cooking.

Curriculum

We deliver a broad balanced curriculum based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters.

Teaching and learning is anchored on the four themes of the EYFS and the characteristics of effective learning as stipulated in the Development Matters.

The areas of learning are given equal opportunities with consideration of the children’s age:

Teachers working with children below 3 years focus on the Prime Areas of learning, while practitioners working with children aged 3 – 5 focus on the Prime and Specific Areas of learning.  These are:

Prime
