This week, the FS1 students had a reading session where they explored the vibrant world of picture reading, using illustrations to build their own unique narratives. While they ‘read’ the story through the artwork, the children begin to demonstrate their growing literacy skills by recognising familiar letters scattered through the text. It was a wonderful hands-on lesson in observation, as they excitedly pointed out the first letters of their names and other high-frequency characters they have been practicing in class. This stage of development is a vital bridge, turning a simple story session into a breakthrough moment where visual cues and letter recognition finally start to click together.
