Unclosing New Horizons: The benefits of Learning Swahili Language

14th June 2024

In an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of learning a foreign language cannot be overstated. High school is an ideal time for students to embark on this linguistic journey, as it equips them with a multitude of key skills that can shape their personal, academic, and professional lives.

Swahili is one of the Modern Foreign Languages offered at Braeside Thika. Some of the Key Skills that we seek to foster in the students include communication skills, cognitive abilities, cultural competences, personal development and career opportunities.

To highlight one of our important skills: Cultural Competence.

We are well aware that languages are not just systems of words and grammar; they are windows into the cultures and histories of diverse communities. High school students who study Swahili gain invaluable insights into different societies, customs, traditions and perspectives. This exposure fosters cultural competence, empathy and a global mindset. It enables students to navigate multicultural environments with respect, appreciation, and a broader understanding of the world.
