The Wonder of the Human Body

8th November 2025

This week the Year 4 children had a chance to explore different aspects of the human body. We began by linking our new learning to our prior by identifying the different parts of the body and the children enjoyed singing the old time classic of head, shoulders, knees and toes. This was then followed by an introduction to digestion and the digestive system.

The children were eager to mention the different organs that they know are found in the human body. Using research, the children had a chance to explore the processes involved in the digestive system. This was followed by asking questions. Some of the questions they had were:

Is the esophagus able to prevent food from moving down to the stomach?

How long does it take the food to go down the esophagus?

What happens in the stomach?

The children then moved on to identifying the parts of the digestive system, highlighting the functions of each part in the process. They concluded their lesson with some fun facts such as an individual is able to produce saliva equal to 2 cans of soda every day and when you blush your stomach lining turns pink too! Did you know that?
