The Language of the Future

9th October 2023

Did you know that around the world various organizations are incorporating coding into their systems? It is considered the language of the future!

Children are active learners and their ability to grasp new concepts is heightened when they get to experience it through hands-on activities.

The Year 2 class has been learning about programming. They have had a chance to learn new vocabulary such as algorithms as a way of issuing commands to the bee bot to move from one place to another. First, the children have to follow the steps to design a path with the various obstacles. Then, they have to use different algorithms to get the bee bot to the designated destination.

This requires deliberate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills are crucial in making them confident individuals and helping them enjoy success as they learn. Programming promotes their ability to work collaboratively. The children develop persistence as they learn how to debug errors in their algorithms.

This is what the children had to say about their experience thus far:

Callista: ‘I enjoyed using the directional arrows when moving the bee bot towards the cheese’.

Owen: ‘I really had to think about the commands I had to give to the bee bot’.
