The joy of hands-on learning in Year 2

16th May 2026

What a time of discovery that our Year 2 class have been having as they dove headfirst into the world of hands-on learning! Our budding scientists have been busy investigating what plants need to grow and survive. The children took part in a fascinating experiment using onions to test their scientific questions, carefully watering one group while leaving the other dry to observe the visible differences in growth. Perhaps most exciting of all was experimenting with water to see if plants can survive in only water. The learners placed spring onions in clear containers and were amazed to watch them sprout and flourish after a few days!

The learning journey has continued outside for Maths, where Year 2 explored capacity. They worked diligently with measuring cylinders, practising the precision needed to read in millilitres.

Meanwhile, our History lessons have taken us on a grand tour, exploring the remarkable evolution of communication, tracing the timeline from the rhythmic beat of ancient drums, moving on to writing letters to the revolutionary bulky phones of the past and the sleek, powerful mobile devices we rely on today.

It has been truly wonderful to see the students so engaged, connecting their classroom knowledge to the real world through such interactive experiences!
