The year 12 BTEC students were tasked with planning and managing a team-building event for Year 9 students on the importance of teamwork. This experience helped us understand the importance of communication, planning, and adaptability in a team setting.
We started by brainstorming the various activities ideas, then worked together to narrow them down to fit a two-hour session. At this stage we learned how essential time management and delegation are when working towards a common goal. We used extrinsic motivation strategies, like offering a cake as a reward, to keep participants engaged.
On the day, we had to adapt quickly when more students showed up than expected, which taught us to stay calm under pressure. The event ran smoothly and ended on time, with great feedback from the students. Indeed effective teamwork can lead to successful outcomes. This experience showed us how practical teamwork skills are in real business situations.
By applying Belbin theory taught in classroom, we shared responsibilities as follows
