Research work is at the core of our humanities lesson and has driven an intensive five weeks in Geography Year 8. Led by enquiry questions, students have looked up information about different climates and ecosystems.
In week 3, we narrowed the groups into two: the fennec foxes, tasked with investigating tropical deserts and the jaguars investigating rainforests
Students completed climate graphs, showing their prowess in plotting and applying their mathematical skills in interpreting and comparing the graphs. A lot of work went into translating their knowledge on formation of deserts and rainforests as students investigated how mountain ranges in North America birth distinct climates and ecosystems on either sides.
This all culminated in presentation work, the one thing Year 8 students never fail to impress at. It was fun learning about the animal adaptations, some which were pretty strange-like the Okapi, which according to Nadia looks like a horse,a giraffe and zebra had a baby!
