Students Report from the Brown’s Cheese Industry

19th March 2022

Year 10 Food and Nutrition students have been learning about the process of cheese making. They recently went for a trip to Brown’ Cheese Industry in Limuru where they had a firsthand experience of making cheese. They were given a factory tour from which they saw how cheese was made from beginning to end. They visited the “Cheese cave” where they saw and touched different types of cheese that were at different stages of maturity.

The highlight of the tour was when they made their own pizza and had them with ice cream.

The tour was a worthwhile one full of learning and fun for them.

Joan

“ What I found interesting in cheese making was the fact that only 10% of milk makes cheese while the rest is poured out as waste. You need 9 liters of milk to make 900g of cheese!

Ruth

“I found it interesting because of the time taken, precautions and many procedures in making the cheese

James

“ I was fascinated by the Cheese caves where there were many types of cheese kept. I also learned that different cheeses mature from 5 months up to two years and that the longer it takes, the more the flavor develops
