Students Empowered by Engaging Careers Day

8th November 2025

Braeside Thika students recently participated in an inspiring and highly beneficial Careers Day designed to bridge the gap between academic life and the professional world. The event provided a rich, immersive experience, offering practical guidance and real-world insights, particularly resonating with the Sixth Formers navigating their post-school choices.

Morning of Mentorship and Insight

The day kicked off with dynamic morning sessions featuring professionals from various societal industries. These experienced members shared their personal career journeys, offering honest accounts of their work life, the challenges they faced, and the paths they took.

A key highlight was the opportunity for students to address questions directly to the sector specialists. This personalized interaction allowed students to gain a deeper, firsthand understanding of what specific roles entail and what the day-to-day realities of different careers are like.

Expert Talks: Diverse Career Paths

Following a short break, the focus shifted to a series of insightful talks from a diverse panel of experts, including professionals in IT, Law, Real Estate, Well-being Psychology, and an intriguing Investigative Journalist.

Students were captivated by their stories, which went beyond mere job descriptions. The speakers provided crucial guidelines on professionalism, highlighted the life qualities essential for success in the workplace, and strongly advised students to maximize the benefits of their current education and background. The core message was one of empowerment: use the resources at hand to build a fulfilling career.

Post-Lunch University Fair

The afternoon brought an exciting small university fair. Students had the invaluable chance to visit various stations where universities and individuals shared the practical application of their work or educational offerings.

This session was crucial for understanding available programs, the quality of education, and the specific skills these institutions prioritize. It offered a tangible look at the next steps after school, helping students align their passions with academic pathways.

Overall, the Careers Day is described as a great and nourishing experience. It served as a powerful tool to empower students, clarify potential professions, and reinforce the value of their education. For Sixth Formers who may have been struggling with uncertainty regarding their future careers, the event provided a much-needed clearer perspective and set practical expectations for their journey ahead. The experience successfully fueled the students' ambition and gave them the confidence to pursue their professional interests.
