Shapes That Count: A Day of Geometric Discovery at Braeside Thika

9th February 2026

At Braeside Thika (BTH), we believe that mathematics is far more than just numbers on a page. As part of our whole-school commitment to developing problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills, we recently held our highly anticipated "Count on It" day. This year’s theme, "Shapes that Count," turned the spotlight on Geometry.

Why Geometry?

Data-driven insights from our recent assessments highlighted Geometry and Measurement as key areas for focused development across several year groups. To bridge these gaps, we moved beyond the usual math lesson, providing students from Year 1 to Year 6 with "rich and sophisticated problems" designed to deepen their conceptual understanding.

A Hands-On, Tech-Infused Approach

The day was defined by collaborative, hands-on learning. One of the highlights was our integration of technology. Students utilized educational tools to transition from 2D designs to 3D realities. Seeing a shape they designed digitally come to life in a virtual 3D space provided a powerful connection between abstract properties and physical forms.

The "Count on It" day was a resounding success. We have ensured that at Braeside Thika, every child knows that when it comes to math, shapes truly do count.
