Children are naturally creative and the sandpit is their perfect canvas! The sandpit in early years is usually a beehive of activities. Children draw, create, build and write in the sand. As they work independently and in groups, they explore new ideas; letting their imaginations wander to new heights. After every creation a child will feel a sense of accomplishment, building confidence every time they play. During playtime with their peers in the sandpit, they will make different things using resources around them. Usually, they will describe the items as they make them and find ways to make it better.
This week some children decided to make house construction materials using the sand. "This is a factory. We are making cement for building the house," said one. "We will need a lot of water," added another. One by one they divided themselves into groups; others dug holes while the rest brought water.
They then brought a mixer to help them do proper mixing before they could embark on building. When done, they decided to put the cement to rest so that it was perfect for building at lunch time.
