Redefining design and technology

26th November 2022

As part of our Design and Technology curriculum this term, the Year 1 children prepared Fruit Salad. Earlier in the term, the children were able to generate ideas based on experiences of different fruits and vegetables. Next, they planned what to do based on experiences of working with different materials and components. The children used models and pictures with words to describe designs expressing their preference for a product from a range of finished items and give reasons for their choices.

Finally, they were able to use a variety of tools to cut and shape the fruits while confidently talking about their work and how they achieved their displays with appropriate vocabulary.

The children tried out different ideas and designs identifying ways in which their work can be improved upon while giving opinions on the work of others.
