Outdoor Maths in Year 2

10th May 2025

Year 2 students have been having an absolute blast with their Maths lessons outdoors! Taking learning outside brings a whole new level of fun as they apply the Maths concepts they've learned in creative and engaging ways.

This term, they dove into exciting activities like collecting data on the cars populating the school parking lot and sorting them by color. The kids had a fantastic time outside, chatting about the different makes of cars and expanding their vocabulary with vibrant descriptions—like calling a shade of green "lime green!" The data they gathered was then transformed into an impressive tally chart, showcasing their findings in style.

But the fun didn’t stop there! They also played a thrilling game of odds and evens. In this lively chase, each child had to determine if their assigned number was odd or even and sprint after their designated "odd" or "even" partner. It was a whirlwind of laughter as they raced and checked their answers! While a few bumps along the way led to some mistakes, the children confidently solidified their understanding of odd and even numbers with each exhilarating round. What an amazing way to make Maths lively and enjoyable!
