Outdoor Learning in Early Years

16th June 2023

Children are explorative little human beings who use all parts of their body to learn mainly through play. They use their senses, imaginations and prior knowledge to satisfy their curiosity . When children are outside, they use their minds to explore the environment around them and this helps foster their creativity, independence and confidence.

Braeside Thika offers regular outdoor learning opportunities to children through nature walks, outdoor lessons and play time. This encourages imaginations and using their prior knowledge children are able to create amazing structures or imitate what they have seen before. These amazing ideas are learning opportunities that adults within the setting extend to achieve the objectives expected.

When children are interacting outdoors they have an opportunity to have back and forth conversations among themselves. This builds their communication skills and enhances their social skills.
