Mental Health Awareness Week

18th May 2021

Connecting with Nature was the main theme that punctuated BIIS Wellness week.

We sought to answer the question 'Why Nature? using guided themed days. This led the children in rediscovering our fundamental human need to connect with nature.

Mindful Monday: We experienced nature in several ways: Quiet times, nature walks, watching and listening to birds and started up our nature journals.

Trisets Tuesday: Sets of 3 was our focus. What three activities can you do in nature today?  The children had an array of activities to choose from and at the end had to tick a check box of 3.

We -Connect : Our connection with nature grew and this day we looked at connecting with each other. We had friendship buckets, kindness notes and paired tasks. The children learnt the importance of recognizing and appreciating each other.

Terrific Thursday:  What a Terrific Day this was! A clear expression of Pomp and Colour!! Talk about Yellow, Pink, Blue, Orange etc.The message across was: Colour speaks in  a thousand different ways. We needed to know that colour brightens our days.

Family Friday: Was done at home. The children shared with family and friends about the importance of wellness.

We learnt to look at nature not only for solace in times of stress and hardship but use it to increase Creativity, Empathy and a Sense of Wonder.

BIIS take away from this eventful week is: It's not just about being in nature that counts, It's how we open up ourselves and interact with nature that makes the whole difference.

The famous words by Aristotle : There is something to be wondered at in all of Nature! is our new mantra.
