Making Maths Fun: How Play Based Learning Supports Early Years Development

28th March 2025

Mathematics can sometimes feel challenging for young learners but it doesn't have to be! In EYFS at Braeside Thika, play based learning is a powerful way to introduce mathematics concepts in a fun and engaging manner. Through games, children develop number recognition, counting skills, problem - solving abilities, and logical thinking. Their social skills are also enhanced as they work in groups.

By turning maths into adventure, children build confidence with numbers in a stress free environment and develop a love for learning that will benefit them throughout their education .

In FS1 class, children engaged in a dice game where they rolled dice, counted the dots, and matched them to number flash cards. This hands-on approach strengthened their number recognition, counting skills and confidence in maths. What a fun and exciting way to learn numbers!
