Learning Through Play

14th September 2024

As Diane Ackerman said, ‘play is our brain's favourite way of learning’. This was evident this week in Crèche at BTH as the learners enjoyed exploring coloured flour at the role play area in class. They used hands and spoons to scoop, sprinkle and pour the flour. Their imaginative skills came real and alive as they prepared pretend meals like baking cakes, soup and uji.

They joyfully represented their home experiences as they practically mixed flour, put on the pretend cooker and stirred. They went to an extent of feeding the dolls as though it was real baby food.

This activity gave them an opportunity to learn through play whereby they are able to develop creativity, improve their imagination and motor skills as well as social interaction with their peers filled with lots of fun.

Children also learn by leading their own play as well as taking part in play which is guided by adults
