Learning occupations in Early Years

30th September 2022

Hmmm! What would I like to be when I grow up?

Occupations:

This is the question that the children are perennially engaging with as they play and work at the different work stations. This happens as they explore with what they know such as the gauze that they have seen during a visit to the doctor, pretend artists as they paint their role play areas relating to the beautiful paintings all around them, painters and builders, this from them seeing ongoing construction as they commute to school on weekdays or run errands with their parents on the weekend.

Role play also goes a long way in helping this as it opens up the wide wide world to them and they get to realise that there is a lot more that happens in the world around us as opposed to just the characters that we encounter in the stories that we read in class.

It’s also interesting to see the children testing their ideas and making predictions as they go about understanding their world. This could be by making bubbles and getting to learn what is needed and how this happens…. scientists in the making?
