This week, Yr1 children had the opportunity to explore various fantasy books in our school library, online resources and visual literacy. They were able to identify authors, characters and recount some of the stories. They were then tasked with developing a new story setting for Julia Donaldson’s new book during our English lesson. The children explored fantasy stories where they were provided with various content to develop their speaking skills, word reading, comprehension and SPAG. As the children created the story setting and engaged in storytelling, they enhanced their language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, and narrative abilities. The discussions and the follow up write up display progress in the use of advanced verbs and adjectives.
Learning requires imagination because it develops critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. It enables students to investigate concepts, draw connections, and gain a more profound comprehension of themselves and the environment.
