As part of their science topic on Forces and Magnets, Year 3 pupils at BTh recently took part in an exciting hands-on investigation to explore how a toy car moves on different surfaces. The experiment focused on comparing movement across rough and smooth surfaces.
The young scientists worked in groups to test a variety of materials—such as carpet, grass, wood, and tile—to see how each surface affected the car's movement. Through this activity, they developed important scientific skills including observation, measuring, and recording data carefully.
After collecting their results, students discussed their findings and learned how to draw conclusions from evidence. They discovered how friction plays a role in slowing down or speeding up movement, and how surface texture can affect how far or fast an object travels.
It was a fun and insightful lesson that brought science to life and helped students deepen their understanding of the forces all around us!
