Green Thumbs

12th February 2022

The gardening club; made up of KS1 children, a going green enthusiast and dedicated school gardeners - has been quite busy this term. We have taken a hands-on approach to learning to live sustainably in harmony with nature. We are in the process of nurturing a greener lifestyle - in line with this year's (June 5th) World Environment Day's theme 'Only One Earth'.

We have enjoyed learning how to grow and care for fruit, vegetables and flowers. Here is a list of some of the activities we have carried out:

  • Harvesting last season's crop with the high-school learners (previous owners of the garden).
  • Tidying up and preparing the land.
  • Digging in manure.
  • Planting sunflowers, spring onions and carrot seeds.
  • Transplanting strawberry seedlings.
  • Watering the boarding house flower beds.
  • Making labels for our garden patch.

Looking ahead, we plan to add a scarecrow or two to our garden and are eagerly awaiting our farm-to-fork vegetable harvest party.
