Future Innovators in the Making

7th September 2024

In Braeside Thika we ensure that children have sufficient open- ended learning resources where children can come up with brilliant ideas on how to use them and make their own structures.

FS1 children this week enjoyed playing with gears which offer a range of educational benefits that go beyond mere entertainment. Through manipulation, they were able to develop a deeper understanding of cause and effect, learning how the movement of one gear affects another. This hands-on experience introduced basic engineering interests in future.

Additionally, playing with gears enhances different skills such as problem-solving skills, effective collaboration, fine motor and communication skills and most importantly critical thinking and perseverance as they refine their designs/structures. Children learn to experiment/ apply different approaches, discovering which arrangements work best to achieve their desired outcome. The trial-and-error process fosters critical thinking and perseverance as they overcome any challenges.
