This term, our French lessons across the primary and secondary schools at BTH have been exciting and engaging, covering a variety of topics that help us build vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and enhance our understanding of the language. Here’s a look at what we have been learning:
We have explored different types of clothing in French, learning how to describe what we wear in different seasons and occasions. Additionally, we practiced describing our outfits using adjectives and learned how to express preferences.
We also focused on colors in French and how to use them correctly when describing objects. Students practiced coloring activities while learning the names of colors, such as:
- Rouge (red)
- Bleu (blue)
- Vert (green)
- Jaune (yellow)
This helped reinforce their ability to match colors with nouns and use them in sentences.
Learning about zoo animals was one of the most exciting parts of this term! We explored different animals you can find at a zoo and how to describe them in French. The students learned that while French and English languages have differences, in some units the vocabulary is quite similar and these are called ‘cognates’. Some of the animals we learned about include:
- Un lion (lion)
- Un éléphant (elephant)
- Une girafe (giraffe)
- Un zèbre (zebra)
Students also practiced making sentences about what these animals eat and where they live.
This half term has been full of fun and learning, with a strong emphasis on expanding our vocabulary and practicing pronunciation. We look forward to building on these topics next term and continuing our French learning journey!
