In our day-to-day interactions with each other, we often use listening skills whether knowingly or unknowingly. As a vital skill, we are deliberate about it in our school. We train our students to learn this skill that will shape their understanding of the world around them
Listening is the art of taking notice of and acting on what someone says; this could be responding to advice or a request. Listening also helps children develop the art of paying attention. Listening can be a useful skill for different problems, but it is essential to help one achieve life goals.
In Early Years, children have clearly demonstrated impressive listening skills. This includes listening to what their peers say to them during play/work sessions, taking in instruction when working on focus activities with an adult and also, listening to different stories on a day to day basis.
Listening also helps with sound awareness, reading and phonological awareness and finally, language and communication.
