EYFS Communication and Language morning

15th June 2021

Communication and language is more than just talking!  It is one of the three prime areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and involves giving children opportunities to:

  • experience a rich language environment
  • develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves
  • speak and listen in a range of situations.

On this day, we chose to focus on the children’s listening, speaking and understanding skills through open-ended activities, stories, songs and dance.

There was a wide range of activities such as, the puppet and role play areas which were such a hit for the play group and FS1 children, simon says and other listening games.  In FS2, we role-played the story of the Three little pigs, sang rhymes as passwords to enter the class and had a mind boggling session during Big Talk

It is never too early to begin encouraging language development. We should offer children speaking and listening opportunities through everyday conversation and practical activities.

Ask your child questions about their day at school and prompt them to, TELL YOU MORE!
