Exploring the World through Sensory Play

25th October 2025

Sensory play is an important part of early childhood development. It allows young children to explore and make sense of the world around them through touch, sight, sound and movement.

Activities that involve handling different materials such as rice, flour or sand help build fine motor skills, support language development and encourage creativity and problem-solving. As children scoop, pour and mix they are not just having fun, they are learning to focus, cooperate and express themselves.

At Braeside Thika, our Creche children have shown a great interest in sensory play particularly when using rice, flour and sand. These familiar materials spark their imagination and lead to lively role-play experiences .It is always delightful to see them pretending to cook, bake or run their own “shops”. Through these fun activities they learn to share, communicate and express their ideas confidently.

The classroom often buzzes with laughter and discovery - clear signs that meaningful learning is happening. In our class, we believe that play is the heart of early learning, giving our youngest learners opportunities to explore, create and grow in a joyful environment
