Exciting lessons in Year 1

1st October 2022

Year 1 I children have been very busy and engaged since we opened school. It has been 4 weeks already, oh my goodness how time flies.

In English lessons they explored the story AAAAH Spider! ; as a story with a familiar setting. Oh what fun it was putting together a story map and acting out the story. They then created their own spiders using various resources available, showing their creativity. None of the Year one children will forget that story any time soon.

During one of the Maths lessons, the children explored ordinal numbers and enjoyed making a line and ordering and labelling children according to their position. Some questions asked were: who is fifth? Who is between the seventh and fifth child?

Another exciting lesson was during History, when the children went on a hunt for fire equipment in the school. They have been exploring the story, the Great Fire of London and were comparing firefighting in the past and now. It was a lot of fun identifying firefighting equipment around the school and reminding ourselves where the fire assembly point is. The children could not imagine that there were no fire engines and hose pipes to use in 1666!

If the term has started out this way, with exciting activities, then Year 1 learners already look forward to learning for the rest of this first term of the academic year.
