Enhancing Learning Through Water Play in Early Years.

9th November 2024

At Braeside Thika, children enjoy water play activities, engaging their senses of touch, sight and sometimes sound. This sensory play allows children to safely explore their environment while developing fine motor skills as they squeeze, sponges, pour water and use scoops, strengthening hand-eye coordination and small muscles.

Water play also fosters problem-solving and scientific thinking as children experience concepts like sinking and floating while measuring water levels encourages curiosity and analytical skills. Additionally, working together during water promotes teamwork,turn-taking and communication and supporting social-emotional well-being. Through such activities, children also expand their vocabulary, using terms like “empty”,”full” and “pour” which introduces them to descriptive language. Water play provides a fun, holistic approach to development in our lessons and we encourage you to do this at home too!
