“I didn’t allow my poor spelling to prevent the start of my first business, Student Magazine. I learned to delegate early on and surround myself with people who could help me in the areas I found tricky.”-Richard Branson, British Entrepreneur and Founder of The Virgin Group.
October is Dyslexia Awareness month and to bring this auspicious event into action, Braeburn Imani was not left behind in joining the world by observing Dyslexia Awareness week. The week commenced with a presentation during the weekly school assembly where students were introduced to Dyslexia and Dyslexic Thinking skills.
Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Walt Disney, and JF Kennedy are some prominent individuals that have left a mark on the world today through their Dyslexic Thinking skills.
The week was marked by activities that centered on dyslexia and its immediate impacts on fluent and accurate reading and writing, myths and facts that surround dyslexia, dyslexic thinking skills, and listening to dyslexic stories. These activities were run by our very own students tagged ‘Dyslexia Awareness Champions'.
In line with the 2022 theme Breaking Through Barriers, BIIS has strived towards rising above the obstacles by having an all-inclusive department. The Inclusion Department works collaboratively with mainstream teachers towards supporting learners with differences in reading and writing.
Red is not only a primary colour, but also a colour for Dyslexia. it denotes awareness, diversity, innovation, connection and strengths of Dyslexia rather than its weaknesses.
