Chi is awake

25th May 2024

What determines one's fortune? The Umuofia clan would say it is your Chi-a personal god. As long as your Chi does not sleep, things always workout.

It has been a busy five weeks of term three for the pupils in KS3 and KS4 as they strived to bring to life the life of Okonkwo, a brave hero and just like all tragic heroes, with a flaw that leads to his demise. The adaptation of Things Fall Apart , Chinua Achebe's debut novel published in 1958, has been a fantastic avenue for showcasing the talent that resides at Braeside Thika.

“When he walked, his heels hardly touched the ground and he seemed to walk on springs, as if he was going to pounce on somebody. And he did pounce on people quite often.”

Thursday, 23rd, was the climax of the day as the play was staged. The audience, composed of parents, students and other guests, was left amazed at how Okonkwo was such a strict man. Others felt pity for him: that after striving so much to show courage, to earn titles and to be a complete opposite of his father, Okonkwo’s ending is a sad one. And what a day with some parents reminiscing about the past when they studied the same novel in high school!
