Building the Men of tomorrow

1st November 2025

On Saturday, 25th October 2025, the serene grounds of Braeside Thika International School were filled with laughter, wisdom, and the sound of meaningful conversations. It was not just another weekend gathering—it was a special Boys’ Function, a day dedicated to mentorship, growth, and celebrating the boy child. The event, sponsored entirely by the fathers and guardians of the school, brought together an inspiring community of men committed to shaping the character and future of Braeside’s young boys.

The morning began with a warm welcome from Mr. Naulikha, the Head Teacher of Braeside Thika, who set the tone for the day with a powerful question: “What does it take to be a great man?” His question sparked reflection among students and parents alike. Mr. Naulikha spoke passionately about the values that define true greatness—not wealth or power, but integrity, humility, empathy, and courage. His message encouraged every boy to look within and understand that greatness begins with good character and purpose.

The heart of the day came alive as fathers and guardians shared their experiences, offering heartfelt advice drawn from their own journeys through life. The open discussions touched on resilience, leadership, emotional strength, respect, and the importance of standing firm in one’s values. Boys listened keenly, asked questions, and shared their own thoughts. It was a day of learning that reached far beyond textbooks—a day when lessons of life took center stage. One proud father shared, “Today we reminded our sons that being a great man starts with being a good citizen.”

One of the most memorable moments of the event came when the fathers introduced a goat-slaughtering session. For many of the boys, it was their first experience witnessing and participating in this traditional practice. Guided carefully by their fathers and guardians, the boys learned not only how to handle the task safely but also about the cultural meaning behind it—teamwork, responsibility, and respect for food and tradition. The laughter, curiosity, and excitement in the air made the moment unforgettable. It was more than a skill learned—it was a rite of passage, a step toward manhood, and a shared bonding experience that strengthened the father-son connection.

As the sun climbed high, the aroma of freshly roasted goat filled the air. Everyone gathered to share a delicious meal, laughter echoing across the school grounds. The sight of fathers and sons dining side by side captured the true spirit of the day—unity, mentorship, and joy. The boys left the event inspired and proud, carrying not just the taste of a great meal, but the lessons of manhood and mentorship that will stay with them for life. And to never forget the football matches between the father, teachers and students. Old school vs New school.

The Boys’ Function 2025 was more than just an event—it was a reminder that the journey to manhood thrives on support, wisdom, and love. Thanks to the initiative of Mr. Naulikha and the generosity of the Braeside Thika fathers and guardians, the boys experienced a day of true growth—learning that to be a great man is to lead with heart, serve with humility, and live with purpose. One father put it beautifully, “We didn’t just come to talk. We came to build men.”

As the day came to an end, smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of purpose filled the air. The Braeside Thika Boys’ Function was not only a success—it was a legacy in the making.
