Braeburn Imani Delegates Attending Model United Nations Conference

7th February 2022

As part of our commitment to promote learning success outside the classroom, we offer Model United Nations as an optional club in the school. In the club, students assume the roles of delegates and ambassadors, as it is in the actual United Nations conferences.

This year, delegates from Braeburn Imani were part of the 28th Middle School Model UNited Nations (MSMUN) Conference. The annual conference, which is usually held at the UN Offices in Gigiri, was held virtually owing to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions at the UN offices.

About MSMUN in Braeburn Imani

The Middle School Model United Nations is a prestigious club in our school that brings together students in KS3 who have expressive interest in debating global issues. The club allows students to assume leadership roles as ambassadors and delegates of their assigned countries.

In the club, students are divided into four main committees i.e. Human Rights, Technology, Ecology, and Health. In these delegations, students write resolutions, and if they are well-written, they are passed to be discussed in the conference. Over the past years, Braeburn Imani has been a pivotal contributor to the resolutions discussed in the conferences. This year, we presented four resolutions and all were passed for discussion in the conference

Special Achievements

Getting all the four resolutions assessed and passed to the general conference was itself a great achievement. But our successes never ended there, we were able to debate three resolutions in the different committees, which all passed.

The epitome of our achievements this year was being recognised as having produced the Best Resolution and Best Speaker in the Health and Human Rights Committees respectively. Congrats to the Delegation of Uganda and Devina for outstanding achievements!

Well done Amb. Sompurna, Amb. Aaron, and Amb. Ziya for articulating your resolutions well that the delegates passed your resolutions. Well done to Amb. Devina for an inspiring resolution that passed the RAC committee.

Meet the Delegations

As a structured organisation, MSMUN has delegations and committees in which the students participate. This year, our committee representations were as follows:

Ecology Committee: Ziya (Ambassador), Jasmine (Delegate), Jean (Delegate), Prince (Delegate)

I really enjoyed the MSMUN conference this year. Being the SG, I am proud of all delegates and ambassadors due to the fact that 3 resolutions passed in the conference written by us. It was a memorable experience and it has been an honor that I was able to read my delegation's resolution and it passed. It was a great experience to bring up my public speaking skills, confidence and knowledge. I'm looking forward to the next conference. - Ziya - Secretary General

My experience in the MSMUN conference was an experience that I will remember for a very long time. MSMUN was a wonderful experience because of all the amazing people I talked to and I got to hear. I had a wonderful time debating resolutions and just being in the conference. I was in the ecology committee and I have to say it was the best committee ever. We were lucky enough as the ecology committee to get such wonderful chairs that cared for us and helped us with anything we needed. It was an amazing experience being in MSMUN and I can't wait to be in EAMUN next year. Jasmine

The experience that I have had in MSMUN has been a very fun and interesting journey. As this is my first MSMUN conference it has been quite a journey. I hope to participate in EAMUN next year. It was a very fun and enjoyable time. It has been an honor to participate this year. - Jean

My MSMUN experience was fantastic and enjoyable. Despite my nerves, I spoke for the first time at the conference and had a good time interacting with other delegates in the breakout rooms. During this experience, I was able to learn more and get more confidence in myself. I'm pleased since I was able to meet new people and form friendships, something I aspire to do better next year. I'm hoping to be able to attend next year with everyone. - Angel

MSMUN has been an incredible, once in a lifetime chance to set a bar for me. A bar for me to change the world. This year's theme was; Innovate, Integrate, Initiate. This has only taught me 1 thing; today is the day, today is the time, today I have the chance to change the world. This has been one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget this experience. Also because my resolution is in the booklet.

What I have learned this week will never be forgotten and I will always use it in life. Innovate, Integrate, Initiate. -Devina

MSMUN has been a wonderful experience for me even though due to covid 19 we weren't able to partake in the physical conference. I am delighted to be part of this wonderful club as an advisor. Over the past couple of years, our delegates have been consistent in improving their critical thinking skills that can be proven in their successes in writing their resolutions. The level of independence that new delegates are showing is exemplary. We are and will always be proud of the delegates. -Mr Ochieng
