A World of Exploration and Learning

21st September 2024

Nature walks offer an exciting opportunity for children to explore the outdoors, engage with the environment, and develop key skills. For FS1 children in Braeside Thika nature walk is a norm , these walks are more than just a walk in the park they are gateways to new experiences that promote physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.

Nature walks offer an opportunity to listen to the sounds around them. Asking key questions to capture the children's attention , What can they hear? Birds singing, leaves rustling, or water flowing? This activity helps develop Listening and Attention skills while making children more aware of their surroundings. Nature walks also promote observation, prediction, and problem-solving, foundational skills for later scientific thinking. Children get a chance to incorporate ICT equipment such as iPads to take photos and then talk about the photos they took.

Incorporating regular nature walks into the EYFS provides a holistic approach to learning, supporting the child’s development across multiple domains. This helps children develop essential skills while fostering a lifelong connection to the natural world. Nature walks can inspire curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder in every child.
