At Braeburn Imani, we have cross-curricular activities where learners transfer knowledge and skills acquired in one subject to another. Maths and Geography are naturally inseparable and we have ensured that we are creating a deliberate love story between these subjects.
Many times, Geography is called a physical science. It is-there are topics in fact that are taught in both subjects like the hydrological cycle, weather, global warming and climate change among others. When Year 7 students saw my interest in their Maths lessons, I highlighted that they will at some point apply their maths skills in Geography too!
Year 7s are learning about calculating areas of irregular shapes . This concept is applied in both Geography, Art and Biology.
Year 10 and 11 have applied this knowledge in their IGCSE course under map skills (Paper 2), where they should show ability to calculate the area of a lake, urban area or area of vegetation using grid counting
